The 2010 SSBR Team Championships may have been the best yet, and it came with all the drama one would expect from it. Team Humps N Horns with BJ Carter, Clay McIntyre and Hunter Carter and Team Faith Life Church with Brian Courson, Leroy Seaborn, and Buckshot Morrison appeared to be the two favorites going into this competition. But, like in all good dramas it’s always the underdogs that battle adversity and come out on top. And I could not have written the script for this one any better than it turned out.
With only one week away from the event only one team was without a member. Kenny Hammock, Team Captain had already gone out on a limb and grabbed up Justin Oglesby from Jacksonville, Fl. A few days prior. Kenny asked me who was still available, and Oglesby had just called me up looking to get on a team. Oglesby has been with the SSBR for several years but never quite reached his stride, but he just took a second the week before in Screven, Ga. , which was his highest finish in the SSBR since joining in 2006. So, I said to myself, “why not”. So, I called Hammock up and told him that this kid Justin Oglesby was looking pretty good. Hammock responded by saying “who” “I don’t know him, is he good”. I had to be honest and say “well, Kenny there’s not much out there and I have a good feeling about Justin”. So, reluctantly Hammock grabbed up the kid from Jacksonville. But they needed one more guy and time was running out and not much to choose from when you need to compete against some of these other teams with loaded rosters. With only 4 days before the event , I received a phone call from , none other than Jake McIntyre and he said, “change of plans , I’ll be in town if you have any openings for me”. To put this in perspective, this was like picking up Bret Favre, 4 days before the Super Bowl. Ok, Ok, maybe not on the same level, but you get the point. Anyways, Hammock was all too thrilled to get the 2005 PBR Finals Qualifier, Jake McIntyre on his team at the last minute. The Stage was set and 9 teams were ready for battle. When I say battle, I was being literal. The Bulls chosen for this year’s event came out of the Notorious Bucking Bull Country of Okeechobee, Fl. Bulls from the 3rd generation of breeders Matt, and Sam Clemmons, also Seth Loathan and Junior Lanier Bucking Bulls. And if you’ve been in the business long enough, just saying bulls from Okeechobee, Fl. would make your hair stand up, especially if you’re a bull fighter. I’m pretty sure I heard one of them say” I just felt like I went to war” after that show. And to add a little more excitement it was in a 40’ x 60’ Arena. But, the riders of the SSBR have grown up facing this kind of challenge, and met the challenge they did.
The First round of action was nothing less than pure grit and determination and each team put out all the effort they could. As for the HnH Cattle co. / Team of McIntyre, Hammock and Oglesby, it was Hammock and McIntyre getting both their bulls ridden to help advance them to the Final round. Each team would pick one rider to represent themselves in the short round against the top bulls from each stock contractor. And then I witness something so special that words were really hard to describe. Maybe Faith had a little to do with it, but either way I was truly impressed by what I seen next. I was sitting on the outside of the Arena when Team Captain, Kenny Hammock came to me and said “We want Jake to ride in the short round but he won’t, he wants Oglesby to ride for our team”. Ok, so I was taken by surprise, and so was Oglesby. Justin Oglesby came to me and said “Jake wants me to ride in the short round for our team and “…….. I said hold on; apparently Jake has more confidence in you than you do, so go prove him right. Of course, encouragement is always good in these moments, but I have to be honest I was wondering what Jake was thinking. So I asked him, and the next words that came from Jakes mouth made more sense than anything I’ve ever heard, and he truly grasped the meaning of “Team”. He said “if we win this event I want to win it as a Team, and Justin was the only one of us to buck off his bull in the long round. I thought that’s pretty interesting, I just witness a true act of unselfishness and faith in others that is rarely found in today’s world. Then the bad news, Justin drew one of the rankest bulls in the short round, a little no named black bull from Junior Lanier. But it seemed like Justin, Jake and Kenny had a little sense of confidence when they found out. Guess they knew something I didn’t. Then the unlikely happened as the gate cracked the little bull blew out 3 feet in the air jerked Oglesby down, and for a split second you thought it was over, but somehow he popped up and postured himself in the center and made one of the best bull rides I’ve seen all year. Jake, just sat on the back of the bucking chutes like he knew it all the time. I just cracked a smile and said to myself, I hope everyone here can appreciate what just happened, because it was that special. The HnH Cattle Co. did win the event and Oglesby was the Hero, and Jake played a few tunes on his guitar at the after party and we just chalked it up as another great SSBR Team Championships weekend.
Wade wins his first event of the year
posted 4-28-10
Jason Wade was the 2005 SSBR Tour Champion, but that was a long time ago and since that time Wade has been battling injuries, Surgeries, and just plain old slumps. Since 2005 Wade has been hanging around the top 20, which would be great for most riders, but if this cowboys not in the top 5 at the end of the year, it’s considered a bad year. But, when this cowboy has his head on straight and isn’t constantly beating himself up, he’s scary good. This weekend , Wade appeared to have his head on straight and the results were evident , Wades first win of the year came on Friday in Davie, Fl. where he posted the highest score of the day on one of 5 Star Rodeo co. Bulls, and found himself in an unfamiliar place at the end of the event, in 1st. OK OK so I’m a little hard on this under achiever, but I’m hoping this article gets to Jason’s and maybe it will get him mad enough to make me eat my words.
The 4th of July weekend has always been a big week for us in the SSBR and its riders. Always lots of fun and big money to be won. Just ask Cody Nance in 2008 he won over $7300 in just 6 days in the Sunshine State during the 4th. This Year there’s over $7000 in cash and prizes to be won in only 2 days. Jason Wades looks to be hitting his stride at just the right time with so much on the line this weekend. All the top cowboys will be in town during the Gulf Coast Shoot out. Don’t miss The Team Championships on Friday in Port Charlotte,Fl. and Bull A Rama Extravaganza in Arcadia,Fl. the next day on Saturday night. Don’t miss the action!
Chad Smith " the Sing'n Cowboy wins Big in Screven,Ga."
posted 6-22-10
Chad Smith of Jacksonville,Fl. headed up to Screven, Ga. this weekend with not much more than his entry fees in his pocket and his guitar in his back seat. Chad Smith may be one of the nicest cowboys you can ever hope to meet. So, 2 years ago when he decided that hanging up his rope and calling it quits would be the best thing, I have to admit I was a little disappointed, mostly due to loosing a great bull rider and good person from our tour. But like any Rodeo Cowboy itches are hard to loose, no matter how long you ignore them. Smith decided that itch needed to be scratched a few more times and boy did he ever scratch it. After a strong outing in Bunnell on a great bull, you could tell Smith had something left in the tank, but how much gas you say. Well, how about taking a 2nd place the first night of competition and a 1st the second night. Not bad you say, oh yea it was also a PBBA bucking bull competition, so the Bulls were pretty good too. Oh, and how about a weekend paycheck of over $2400. Im not sure but I'll venture to say this cowboy is back and hitting full stride. Chad was picked up by Jason Wade to ride on his Team on July 2 at the Team Championships in Pt. Charlotte,Fl. and will also be competing in Arcadia,Fl. on July 3. Just mayby if we are all a little lucky you may get a few tunes from one of the most talented Musicians in the Rodeo World, Yes he sings and plays guitar also. Sorry ladies he's married but you can still enjoy his singing and bull riding. You dont want to miss all the action at the Gulf Coast Shoot out and you surely don't want to miss this cowboy in action.

Courson Punches Back
Posted 6-7-10
Brian Courson takes full advantage of everything the SSBR has to offer this season. Courson is on a roll to win more money, more Series Buckles and more incentives than anyone in SSBR History. After a big win in Pt Charlotte this weekend, Courson moved ahead in both the Pro and Tour Standings along with stretching out a large lead in the Pt Charlotte,Fl. Standings. Although he is sitting back in the Myakka City,Fl standings ,I wouldn't count on that for to long. With the addition of the Pro Division, based on money won, the SSBR riders have the opportunity to win 4 Series Buckles in 2010. If 4 Championship Buckles are not enough, how about adding the New Tractor Supply Challenge every month to the Pt Charlotte,FL. Pro Series. The Tractor Supply Co. of Pt Charlotte has joined the SSBR Team in 2010. Each and every month the Rider that wins the event will get a new pair of Ariat or Justin Boots. Also, one lucky SSBR will win a different product from Tractor Supply each Month. Courson was so excited about our new incentive program, he told me that he may open up a Boot Store if he keeps winning the Tractor Supply Challenge every month. I know one thing, If I was a fan I would be looking for the Product with the Brian Coursons name on it, theres a good chance you'd be sporting something new when you leave that event.

Record's get broken in the SSBR
posted 5-24-10
The PBBA meets the SSBR/NBRA riders, if that was all I wrote about this event a year from now that’s all I would need in my story. Why, you ask, well just that combination alone would guarantee a story full of great bucking bulls, great bull riders, and great action. Then you add the Production of the River Bend Rodeo Co. along with Norm Edwards and Rob Smets announcing the Event in a great Country Town of Bunnel, Fl. Let’s just put it this way, I’m glad I made the 4 hour drive to see it in person. And when I say a year from now, the combination of the two won’t need explaining, I mean that’s the direction the PBBA is heading in. The PBBA brings it, when It comes to Bull Power, and the SSBR Bull Riders always meet the Challenge. So as you would expect the numbers say everything about this event. Two records were broken this night. The highest average bull scores for one event total and the highest average rider total for one event were entered into the SSBR record books on May 22,2010.
AS far a SSBR record breaking, we only need to say “Wagner Luciano”. He holds almost all the SSBR Current Records:
® Most SSBR Rider Championship Buckles: Wagner Luciano – 4
® Most Consecutive Rides: Wagner Luciano: 2009 Season- 17 consecutive rides
® Highest One Event Average: Wagner Luciano: 179 (Bunnel, FL. May 22, 2010)
® Most Career SSBR Dollars: Wagner Luciano: $34,381
® Most Career Dollars in One Season: Wagner Luciano: $22,340 (2009)
® Highest Marked Ride: Jimmy Lathero: July 5, 2007- 92 pts on 600 Skoal (Remington Roughstock)
® High Marked Bull: 341 Moody Who (Peace River Rodeo): 47.5 pts
® Most Total SSBR Buckles Won: Chris Weasel Forrest (Bullfighter): 6
@ Highest total Bull Average for an SSBR event: Bunnel,Fl. May 22,2010
So as you can see, Wagner Luciano, is pretty good. As far as the the Event goes in Bunnel, Fl. Just check out the results page to see how the bulls and riders stacked up. It was pretty impressive. Some standouts, included the newly revised, Italo Aguilar, who breaks out with a win and a second place in the past month. This Kid from Brazil is on Fire, and may have sealed his first trip to an SSBR Finals ever. Then out of now where comes Joe Milton of Georgia with 2 impressive rides, this was Milton’s first SSBR Event and he turned a few heads this weekend. And then there was a Van full of talent, the Van they call the “the Blue Brahma” held BJ Carter, Jake and Clay McIntyre, and Newt Matson, all of who scored no lower than an 85 in the long round. The Blue Brahma Band also played a few tunes, with Chad Smith and Jake, cowboy style after the event was over. All and all it was what you may expect when you go to and SSBR event with PBBA Bulls and River Bend Rodeo Productions. I’m looking forward to more just like it. The Battle really heats up as the Reigning Champion; Wagner Luciano takes back the lead from Courson, as we head into the Final Stretch of the Season. You don’t want to miss one SSBR Event, because things are just heating up.
Luciano's Sneek attack
posted May 10,2010
Wagner Luciano takes advantage of Courson and Jake McIntyre’s absence from SSBR competition this week by
Winning the Myakka City event and moving back into striking distance for his 2nd straight SSBR Tour Championship.
Luciano is looking to defend his Championship anyway possible. Luciano doing a juggling act this year with the SSBR
And the PBR. Luciano has his sight set on the PBR Finals in Las Vegas but due to to his die hard loyalty to his alma mater, the SSBR, Luciano has no intentions of giving up his Tour Championship Buckle so easily. McIntyre and Courson, who did not make the event in Myakka City, may have not realized the King of consistency wouldn’t miss out on an opportunity to move back into the role of spoiler for Courson and McIntyre. I can promise you one thing; you don’t want to give Luciano any free opportunities to take away a lead. I think Courson and McIntyre may have made a grave mistake this week by opening up that hole. With only a few events left in the season all the SSBR riders will start scrambling for positions going into the Finals.
In other news, Rookie, Johnny Fuerst has been making a name for himself the past few months. Fuerst is pushing the current Rookie Leader, Brazil’s Andserson Alemcar within a few points of the lead and I don’t see this cowboy slowing down a bit.

My hitching began Wednesday about 2 pm coming into the driveway was Brandon Hendrix with a bulldog named “Pretty” leaving to St. Cloud I said how about a ride to Tampa, I got a fishing trip to make, no problem ,come on , off to Tampa we went to meet the newly to be married Donnie Newman ..Into the hog hunting machine I went with 6 puppies in a dog box, head over to the local hog pen and start training some puppies having a cold beer that night, dinner and a bull flick.next morning we head to Arcadia, me, Donnie and his uncle and 6 puppies who never rode In a dog box for you hunters who know …was’nt pretty …(have you ever seen 6 dogs get sick in a dog box in a jeep cherokee) never so happy to see Arcadia was Carl for my next trip, I jump in the jeep and he says “ready to do some fishing” so the next morning we get up and head fishing trying to hit the inshore slam a redfish, trout and snook 3 hours later boom boom whoa, whoopa! I’m on a 19 inch trout then Carl, Whoopa! I’m on a 7 inch catfish..you da man pelican then we hit another spot two hours later another big trout, Carl’s getting mad.then I hear big fish, big fish Carl’s rod is doubled over big fish, big fish he pulls up the biggest trout I ever seen caught whips him over the boat he hits the other side of the boat in the water ,dummy, Carl grabs the fish’n line and tries to pull him in the boat and he breaks him off, 10 big trout later and a missed world record fish later.. We call it a day …now its Saturday we head to the bull riding .J.W spins some of old school Hollywood and booger head as the act and bulls from Peace River, Randant and Lee, and B-B bucking bulls.
Port Charlotte Event Winner" Jake McIntyre
Jake ended up winning it with an 84 on 011 the club, Brian rode boots for 81 to tie with Kyle Bozeman for 81 on 222 ,waiting on Wade was 80 on 402 then was Johnny Fuerst on #5 for 79,Ty Harris was 78 and they rode a couple more …me I was gate jerk …the short round was really good bull wise everyone got dusted and I got the crap hooked out of me by 150 Red Nanner cause Coursen got a reride cause the latch man popped the latch early…not to say names Mr. president… so he took him back with no luck ..Jake got drilled by Little Bit Moody. Waiting on Wade had the nut 654 for 7.7 sec and Johnny had a good sucker 230 rode to the wistle and fell off ,if this guy keeps looking this impressive on the back of bulls I expect big things out of him, Kyle had no chance on 305 Ty got throwed off 65 pretty quick.. other highlights were Clay getting chillie whooped off 687, Newt getting chunked off 57 and Rooster getting handled by master blaster ,almost forgot to mention with Jake and his little brother was the daddy to the Macintyre duo Gordy moving around looking in great shape after his bout with a severe stroke {happy to see him doing well} .. So Sunday rolls around and we head off on the salt water cowboy to do some fishing off Port Charlotte but the 3 to 5 foot seas we decide to take a ride down the coastal side to do a little boat ride.so what next off to the keys for a week of off shore fishing on the salt water cowboy with Carl, Weasel, Mr. Forrest and Wade, the dolphin bite is on and were gonna have a last minute chance to fish the keys before their ruined by the oil spill that’s fixing to destroy the gulf coast…2 be continued..

Aguilar and Matson Split First place in Clewiston
posted April 28,2010
Newt Matson posted his 3rd win of the Season and moves into contention for the Tour Championship. Italo Aquilar of Brazil posted his first win ever, in the the SSBR. Newt Matson has been riding bulls for the past 6 years, but consistancy has been his achillis tendon up until now. Matson is riding over 40% of his bulls and has won 3 events, 3rd on the wins list only to Courson and Jake McIntyre. The 2010 Season is shaping up to be the closest battle ever, and Newt Matson looks to be one of the riders making a push for the championship.
Italo Aguilar of Brazil has put himself in a position he's been chasing for 3 years. With Aguilar's first win ever in the SSBR, he has positioned himself into the top 30, and finds himself in unfamiliar waters. If Aguilar can hold his position for a few more months, he will Qualify himself for his first SSBR Finals Appearance.
In other news, Clay McIntyre, who had his head stepped on in Clewiston, was sent to the Hospital for a X-Rays will be fine and will compete in Pt Charlotte this week.
Ricky Ringer who was badly injured a few months back in Davie,Fl. will attend the Pt Charlotte event this week as a special guest, but will not be competing. Good News for Ringer, he will be headed on a full weeks Fishing Trip to the Florida Keys, Compliments of Fishing Capt.Clint Knowles and the Saltwater Cowboy and SSBR Bull Fighter, Weasel Forrest. Ringer said " I can't Ride bulls right now, but I sure can fish".
Also don't forget, the Pt Charlotte event this week will feature 25 cents from the Bubba the Love Sponge Show riding a bull and Tom " the Tree man " also from the Bubba Show, as a guest Rodeo Clown. Bubba's Web Site
SSBR “the Bull Riding factory”
posted April 22, 2010
I turned the TV on this morning to ESPN and the Top Ten College Football Factories countdown show came on. It was a show based on which College Program produced the best Pro Athletes. Then I got thinking about Bull Riding and which Associations have produced the most talented Bull Riders in the PBR, CBR or PRCA. Well the more I thought about it the more I realized the SSBR has produced some really top notch cowboys in its 6 year existence. You may even say, the SSBR is like the University of Miami. Ok Ok so we don’t have Warren Sapp, Jim Kelly, Clinton Portis, Ray Lewis, but we do have a Brian Courson, Jake McIntyre, Dylan Werner, Jimmy Lathero, Caleb Sanderson, Wagner Luciano , Cody Nance to name a few. The past 2 years have been the best for the SSBR when it comes to producing quality athletes. In 2008, Caleb Sanderson was named the SSBR Champion and two months later he was Riding Bulls on the Largest Stage in the Sport “the PBR Built Ford Tough Series” which he is still currently competing at. In 2009, Wagner Luciano was named the SSBR Champion and sure enough a few months later, he’s riding along side of Caleb Sanderson at the PBR Built Ford Tough Events. Oh yea, how about the 2006 SSBR Finals Champion, Dylan Werner, he’s doing all right too. Dylan is sitting in the top 10 in the PRCA World Standings and currently leading the Rookie Standings. Jimmy Lathero, a 4x SSBR Finals Qualifier ended up going to the CBR World Finals in 2009. And off course Jake McIntyre and Brian Courson made their mark in 2005 by qualifying for the 2005 PBR World Finals, which is the highest honor a Bull Rider can achieve in the sport. Cody Nance was a 2x SSBR Finals Qualifier in 2007 and 2008 and one year later he wins the 2009 PBR Rookie of the Year and qualifies for the 2009 PBR World Finals along with 2009 SSBR Champion, Caleb Sanderson. Currently Brian Courson, Jake Mcintyre, Wagner Luciano, Jimmy Lathero, and Dylan Werner are all still competing at the SSBR events to sharpen up their skills while competing at our sports highest levels. In 2008 and 2009 both Caleb Sanderson and Wagner Luciano in less than 6 months after being crowned SSBR Champions made it the PBR Built Ford Tough Series. The SSBR and its fans are real lucky to be able to see such great talents each and every week on our tour and surely love to see our own become superstars of the Sport. So don’t miss an opportunity to see some of the Sports future Stars right here at the SSBR.

The SSBR Bulls Continue their Dominance in April
posted April 12,2010
Every week I write about the SSBR Riders and who is winning what, and who is hot and who is not type stories. But, I have to admit I leave out stories about some of the other great athletes we have in our sport. The Bulls and the Stock Contractors of the SSBR really should be getting some of the Spot Light, considering they are the ones dominating the SSBR Arena’s in April. How about 4 out of 51 qualified rides in the past two weeks. Not good, you might say, well not good if you a rider, but real good if you a Bull. It’s not that the riders haven’t been putting out the effort; the bulls are just that good. 341 Little Bit Moody of the Peace River Rodeo Co. is continuing his dominance with two 46 point bull scores, back to back. 33 Phosphate of Randant and Lee is another bull putting up big numbers as well. And if you thought crossing the State line into Georgia was going to get any easier, wrong! That’s Lowry Country that is Charlie Lowry of the 4L Rodeo Co. Who has been even harder on these cowboys, with his continual rank Bulls that he keeps dropping down on the SSBR Riders. But if the riders thought these Stock Contractors were going to let up a little, Wrong! Peace River Rodeo Co. and the B-B Bucking Bulls decided to draft a few more bulls from North Carolina and Texas and put a little more hot sauce in the pan. The SSBR has one week off. The riders may need a little rest from the beatings they have been getting. I’m looking forward to seeing how these cowboys will rebound from a pretty tough Month of April. But you can count on one thing it doesn’t look like the bulls will be letting up any time soon. Don’t miss the action in May as we head to Pt. Charlotte, Fl. Pensacola, Fl., Myakka City, Fl. and Bunnel, Fl. The Riders of the SSBR have something to prove and show our fans what tough is all about.
The SSBR Thunder Dome Pro Series consist of 10 events Produced by the SSBR itself at the SSBR’s Arena we call the “Thunder Dome” nicknamed mostly due to the small compact Bull Riding Arena that can seat up to 1000 spectators around a 60’ x 40’ arena, Yes the first few rows get an eye full at this place. Newly Constructed this year the Thunder Dome was designed to give Bull Riding Fans a whole new look at the Sport up close and personnel. The first event on April 3 was filled with all the fixings. Top Pro’s like Brian Courson, Jimmy Lathero, and Rooster McKeeman , 12x Southern Finals Bull Fighter, Weasel Forrest and Pro Rodeo Clown “ Hollywood” Harris were all on hand to open the New Season in Pt Charlotte,FL. The First event did not disappoint, it was everything we thought it would be. The atmosphere was electric for 2 solid hours. Brian Courson of Florida won the Event with Johnny Fuerst of Oklahoma and Edgmar Luiz of Brazil
rounding out 2nd and 3rd .

The original SSBR’s Arena was an open air Design. But we saw an opportunity to bring the show under roof for one reason, to give our fans an opportunity to see Bull Riding like it’s never been seen before. So, if you’re ever in South West Florida, visit the Home of the SSBR and our Thunder Dome, the first Saturday of the month.
The Shamrock Showdown

Top SSBR Riders like Ronnie Manass, Wesley Cryer, Lane Hartzog, and Anderson Alemcar were all on hand Saturday night in Dublin,Ga to take on some of the top Bulls in the PBBA ( Professional Bucking Bull Assoc.). Event Producer, Billy Watson, had only one thing to say “ the Bulls were Electric”. The PBBA is well known for having some of the best Competition Bucking Bulls in the Country, and they did not come up short in Dublin. Anderson Alemcar, the Rookie out of Brazil was one of a very short list of qualified rides on Saturday night, which also worked out in his favor since he was leading the event after the first round was over. Alemcar ended up winning the event and placing in 2 out 3 events the past 2 weeks. Alemcar is my prediction for Rookie of the year in 2010, but we have one of the toughest field of Rookies in SSBR history. Rookies like Almir Dantas, Sergio Andrade, and Rodson Bueno are all capable of a Buckle Championship this year.

The bully beat down should have been the name of the event in Myakka City on Saturday night. Only 4 qualified rides in the 1st round and none in the Short round. The bulls from Peace River Rodeo and Randant and Lee Bucking bulls were a one two punch that the left the riders up against the ropes all night. Some of the top riders were on hand , like CBR Finals Qualifier and currently # 10 in the PRCA World Standings ,Dylan Werner. But, it was the least likely of the bunch that would come out on top. Sergio Andrade ,a Rookie Cowboy from Honduras, South America lead the event after the 1st round and that’s all she wrote. The Bulls won the 2nd round and Andrade won his first Pro Bull Riding event in the United States.

Chalo Nitka Festival and Rodeo
posted March 8,2010
It would be a tragedy if I didn't tell you a little story about my day in Chalo Nitka or "Big Bass" in Seminole.
Okay some of you may be aware of the many stories of the Chalo Nitka Festival Rodeo Weekends, they have been nothing short of memorable. Chalo Nitka has become one of those places that you love to go that night but takes you several weeks to recooperate from. If you've never been to this Rodeo you need to go and you will know what I'm talking about, but here's the deal , you can't just take a little bite of it , you need to make a commitment and take it all in ,and I promise you , the stories you will have will last for generations.
Okay here we go with the quick version of my Chalo Nitka experience in 2010 , but you will need to fill in the holes on your own. The drive was no less than prestine and quiet , crossing some of the largest ranch lands in Florida, no cars , no people, just wide open range along SR 74. I got to the Bronson Rodeo arena early and it was still quiet, but this was the second day of competition so I new eyes would be opening sometime soon after a long Friday night, Off course it was 4pm. Chalo Nitka Festival is like a whind up toy, its starts out slow and then real fast.As the event was about to start a few new comers to Chalo Nitka were standing next to me and said I thought this event was suppose to be wild and crazy .I said, just wait boys , you need to let this stuff just play out, Chalo Nitka doesn't script this stuff. And at that very moment the gate opened and a Cowboy on a horse was pulling a man on a sled around the arena as fast as it could go, hoopin and hollerin, then the sled hit a metal pole holding the arena panels up, and knocked the guy out cold. I said "okay then" we are definetly in Chalo Nitka boys". Then ,as the man was carried out , I heard a voice yell out " whoopa , Chalo Nitka you Sons of (**&^*^). Yes ,the Chalo Nitka Rodeo had officially started.
Oh Yea, we did have some SSBR championship bull riding in the mix as well. It was almost a replay of last year with Courson and Matson , Battleing it out again,But it was Matson who took home the Buckle for the Second year in a row. Anderson Alemcar took second behind Matson by only 1 point. Alemcar is another 1st year addition to the SSBR, but rides like a champion. Chalo Nitka doesn't end when the Rodeo's over either, the Rodeo just moves indoors with a live Country Band In a Barn. . Last thing I remember was Event Champion,Newt Matson Dancing on stage with the band enjoyng his victory in good ole Chalo Nitka Fasion. Any ways if you are ever in need of a few good stories, Chalo Nitka Festival and Rodeo is the place you need to go. So , Whoopa , seeya next year.
Fellsmere Cracker Day Rodeo
posted March 8,2010
Fellsmere Cracker Day Rodeo is one of Florida's Longest runnng events, Since 1955 , this small town has put on some of the wildest Rodeo's and Bull Ridings I've ever seen. This year was no different, with a packed house at the Fellsmere Riding Club Rodeo arena the Fans got all the Cowboy Lifestyle they could handle. Bulls , Barrels ,Food , and Fun is never a shortage at this a event. Fellsmere is home to Generations of Great Rodeo Athletes, such as the Lathero's
Father Bobby a Circuit Finals Bull Rider in the 80's and 90's and now Bobby Jr , Multi Pro Finals Bull Rider and the Youngest Billy Lathero making his way up the High School Rodeo ranks, But of course the Lathero's are most noted for the Middle Sibling child, Jimmy Lathero, the most decorated of all the many great rodeo Cowboys that have come out of Fellsmere,FL. in 2008 Jimmy was in the race for the Daisy Rookie Championship in the PBR and made several appearances on National TV with both the CBR and The PBR.
The 2010 Fellsmere Cracker Day Bull Riding had some of the SSBR's top riders in attendance such as Lathero,Courson,Dantas, and 2009 Rookie Champion, Kenny Hammock. Jimmy Lathero was as good as he good be on Sunday , but it was Dantas who just drew the better bull. When riders go Ride for Ride , thats all they can do , then its up to the Bull and the Judges. On this day it was Dantas who got the better of the latter end. The Brazilian sensation ,Almir Dantas, who just arrived on scene in 2010 has added another high powered Brazilian to the field of SSBR riders this year, If Wagner Luciano wasn't bad enough to have to deal with every weekend. These two guys alone are purely a dominating duo. Dantas took home the Victory in Fellsmere,FL with local sensation Jimmy Lathero right behind in a close second. The SSBR heads to two moregreat towns ,Myakka City ,Fl and Dublin,Ga this week . You dont wanna miss the Action!
Swamp Cabbage Festival Bull Riding
posted March 3,2010
Hello rodeo fans, how are you all doing on this fine day. As you know the Swamp Cabbage Festival bulls and barrels occured this weekend. That's right, every bullriders dream. A three day event with oppurtunity for big money and a big buckle.
It all started Friday night with a big bang. Names like Macyntire, Coursen, Lathero, Luciano, and Ringer were on the bill. The boys were back in town( as JW McCullough would play in the grand entry)and sparks flew. Of course, you can't forget to mention our awesome entertainment for the weekend , eight time PRCA clown of the year, Mr. Keith Isely. These bullriders knew their hands were full with with the likes of bulls such as X3 Prince, 33 Phosphate, and the 2009 SSBR bucking bull of the year Lil Bit Moody of the Peace River rodeo company.
Long round action was as expected, they only rode eight out of twenty bulls, and only six would be in the short round. The short round is where the action would start for the entire weekend. The two rides of the night in my opinion were those of Ricky Ringer on Tumbleweed, and a rematch from two weeks ago, Jake Macyntire on 33 Phosphate. We will start with Ringer's ride on Tumbleweed, one of the most electrifying rides of the season. There is only one way to describe this ride, Mrs. Teresa Bryant's picture of Ricky and Tumbleweed over top of the panels. Eighty points later Ricky Ringer would win a check. Now on to Mr. cool himself, Jake Macyntire. Like I said earlier, a rematch from an event in Myakka city. Jake and Phosphate hooked up for an event win for the second time in two weeks.
Saturday night had some of the same top riders except for Jimmy Lathero and Ricky Ringer who moved on to Davie for another SSBR event, where Jimmy would take the event win. Ricky Ringer was not as fortunate suffering injury by a bull stepping on his face. He will undergo surgery later this week. Please keep Ricky in your prayers as i know we all will here at the SSBR office. As usual, the short round was filled and Jake Macyntire was in it for the second night in a row. He just couldn't muster up enough to knock off the 2009 SSBR tough man of the year award winner Brian Coursen. A man who has seen the winner's circle more than one man could imagine, and is also on a streak of his own placing steadily and winning checks here lately. The saturday Swamp Cabbage Festival win was just another notch on his belt.
Now keep in mind, the Lonestar Silversmith buckle up for grabs had to be won by money earned throughout the entire weekend. With that being said it was between two gentlemen, Jake and Brian. It turned out that Mr. coursen bucked off in the long round leaving the door wide open for Jake to take home the honor if he won a check. The short round was stacked with talent. Gentlemen such as Dustin Sheppard(fresh off of a PRCA Frontier circuit championship), 2009 SSBR champ Wagner Luciano, Jake Macyntire, and a fellow who has been on a little hiatus, Mr. Chad Smith. Despite being mia for some, time Chad would go into the short round picking up right where he left off, leading with a an 81 point bullride.
The short round started off with three straight buckoffs including the champ Wagner coming up just a little bit short. Then the plot began to thicken.Dustin took on Phosphate, Jakes hot bull of late, and turned the tide with an 87 point bullride. Only two guys could knock Dustin off the leaders podium, Jake and Chad. Jake drew X3 Prince of the Peace River rodeo string, a bull with an average score of 86 points. Jake took full advantage of the bull's potential to climb to a score of 87 points and overtake Dustin for the lead. Then there was one. Jake's good buddy and singing partner Chad Smith. As the announcer proclaimed a rematch between Chad and the man himself Lil Bit Moody, you could cut the tension with a knife. Two years ago, Chad took this champion bucking bull for seven seconds at the R.O.C.K foundation team championship in Port Charlotte. With the crowd on there feet, the 2009 champ did his business with his wicked corner and Chad fell short of the eight second whistle. Jake Mac would bring home the gold buckle and add to his list of accomplishments in his illustrious bullriding career.
In closing, I think we can say that Mr. Mac is Mr. Consistency in the month of February winning four of the last five events including two in the same day( Mims, Fl. and Myakka city). Ranadant and Lee productions, The SSBR and the bullriders would like to thank Richard Bowers( President of the Seminole Tribe of Florida), Barbara Billie, William Osceola, Morris Medical Center, Edwards Orthadontics, Labelle Ranch and Farm Supply, and the fans who helped make this event a succesful and exciting one. Catch you on the next trip.

SSBR attends Rodeo Marketing College
posted Feb 22,2010

One of the highest priorities of the SSBR is Professionalism. The Members, Producers and Fans of the SSBR deserve no less than the highest quality of events. So, to help aid in this mission, the SSBR is continuosly seeking a higher learning of the Sport. Steve Gander and the Rodeo Marketing College is one of those aids. Recently, SSBR Board Members, Byron McIntosh and Chris Forrest, headed to Raleigh ,NC to get a few more helpful hints on how to create a better quality atmoshphere for current events associated with the SSBR, and provide a service no less than the highest standards of Professionalism. Why you ask the SSBR took this opportunity to be a part of this Seminar . Well here you go...........
Gander has made a 30-year career of producing, marketing, and underwriting professional rodeo and concerts.
His World’s Toughest Rodeo series produced events in 28 states and Canada – from New York’s famed Madison Square Garden to Portland, Oregon. He produced the historic command performance for President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan and 11,000 guests. His World’s Biggest Beach Party earned world-wide publicity. He has produced PRCA sanctioned events in 28 states and developed the World’s Toughest Bulls & Broncs Series of MLR (Major League Rodeo).
As one person stated, “I learn more about how to help my rodeo in one conversation with Steve than 3 days at the PRCA convention. And he’s more fun.”
In 2001, Gander wrote, Rodeo Event Marketing – The Business of Getting B.I.T.S. (Buts in the Seats). This book has become the industry standard.
Why this seminar? We’re glad you asked.
Because of the rapid changes in traditional media over the past few years, we decided to develop Rodeo Marketing 101 to help rodeo committees meet the new challenges.
Gander is the ideal instructor. He has been in the trenches and is acknowledged for his rodeo production and marketing success.
Highlights:
• Former owner of Dodge Rodeo, Inc.
• When Gander sold his rodeo company in 2004, it was the largest privately held rodeo company in the U.S.
• Hired by the WPRA and PBR for his expertise.
• Served as Vice President and a board member of The Association of Rodeo Committees.
• Served on the PRCA Rodeo Committee Executive Council.
“If experience means I can now recognize a mistake when I make it again, maybe my experiences will help you avoid my mistakes,” states Gander. “The hope of this seminar is to provide you with updated marketing ammunition to maximize your success. And we’re going to have fun!”
